Weekly Postcard: Antwerp train station

Weekly Postcard / Photo Friday: a weekly post with a picture that I love, of a place that is worth highlighting.

Weekly Postcard: Antwerp train station.

Antwerpen-Centraal, the main railway station in Antwerpen is one of the most beautiful train stations in the world (voted number 1 in the world by Mashable in 2014). Constructed between 1895 and 1905 it is now widely regarded as the finest example of railway architecture in Belgium.

How to get there

Well, you take a train there, obviously. From Brussels it takes about 30 minutes. From Rotterdam if you take the Thalys it is 30 minutes as well, when you’re on a tighter budget you can take a regular intercity train and it will take you just over an hour. From Amsterdam it take just over an hour with the Thalys and 2 to 3 hours with regular intercity trains.

The train station is located in the city center on just a few minutes walking from the Cathedral and the Grote Markt.

What to do

Stare in awe at the beautiful architecture. When you’re done (and it may take a while) hop out and explore the city center which is just a few minutes walking away. Drink several beers and then make your way to the Koninck brewery to drink some more.

No rights can be derived from this post. I did my utmost best to ensure that prices and times are correct, yet errors happen and prices change.
